Dr. Qu's Video Speech for 2022 World Food Day

Policy Support;World Food Day;Food Security and Nutrition;South-South Cooperation

I am Qu Sixi, Representative of World Food Programme China.

The world is undergoing profound changes today. Lingering impacts of Covid-19, rising extreme weather events, and increased conflicts, altogether present unprecedented challenges to global food security. About 828 million people go to bed hungry every night around the world, which is more than ten percent of the global population. Today is the 42nd World Food Day. For now and future, ensuring access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food is an important step towards global food security. It is especially critical for the most vulnerable in the world.

Food security is a foundational lifeline for each nation and its people. While ensuring the food supply at home, China is also actively contributing to global food security and joint development. WFP will work together with our partners in responding to the multiple challenges the world is facing today. A particular focus would be given to strengthening mutual learning among developing countries in reducing food loss and waste. Sharing of China’s development experiences and successes through South-South Cooperation can thus play an important role. WFP will be full support of this year’s World Food Day theme of “Leave No One Behind” by promoting innovations and leveraging each other’s experiences and technical advantages, as we believe, together we can make a difference in improving global food security and nutrition.

Please, join us for saving lives, and changing lives!
